Pennsylvania is one of the those states that has plenty of things to do, if you know where to look. I recently made my way to Lancaster, PA, which is located in the south central part of the state. When you think southern Pennsylvania, many people may think that there is not much to do, but that could not be further from the truth. There are literally tons of museums, shows, activities for kids, and so much more, so i decided to write this short article detailing some of the many things to do.
One great place to take your children is the National Toy Train Museum, located just outside Strasburg. They have a variety of toy trains, dating all the way back to the early 18th century. It's actually a part of a larger museum which houses full size trains from the late 1800's, but the smaller version for the kids. Ticket prices are normally available at reduced rates, and the museum is open practically everyday except monday.
Another cool thing you can do is visit Dutch Wonderland, one of the largest amusement parks in Pennsylvania. Home to such thrilling rides like "Astroliner" and "Crazy Plane", your kids will go bonkers for this place! It is a seasonal establishment however, and is normally open from May through October. Ticket prices are reasonable, and parking is completely free.
For the adults, you may want to check out the Lancaster Brewing company, on North Plum street in Lancaster. They have one of the largest choice of hand crafted beers on the east coast, and their dinner menu has received rave reviews from some well-respected newspapers. Try the chocolate covered strawberry stout, or relax in their fine dining atmosphere. You can also learn about their rich history, or even schedule a wedding or party.
For the more adventurous, there are plenty of other things to do such as skydiving, whitewater rafting, and a round of golf. One of the most exciting things is go on a hot air balloon ride. You can soar swiftly over the lush landscape of Lancaster in a hot air balloon for as little as $240 a person. For those that have never been on a ride, it is one of the most awe-inspiring things you can imagine. Today, I had to go to the immigration office because my visa was about to expire. Unfortunately, most foreigners only get 21 days in the Philippines. Remember NOT to pass the 21 days or you will be fined. I had a friend who was over a week late on getting his visa extension and had to pay 1,000 pesos ($22.50USD). On top of that, the next time he came to the Philippines he was questioned about why he was late getting the extension and they told him to show proof of his return ticket because of it. Lumiere then showed them proof of his return ticket on his computer, but they then asked for a hard-copy of the return ticket. He didn't have one and the immigration worker was kind enough to let him pass anyway.
The immigration office is located near D-Mall, but we ended up getting lost trying to find it. Lumiere asked a security guard at Boracay Resort and he told us it was about 5 minutes from where we were. We ended up finding the immigration office after walking on the same street as D-Mall. The immigration office is located in the same building as Nervana Beach Resort. It was about 3:30 PM when we arrived and there were already a few people inside. We sat in the comfortable chairs and waited for our turn.
There was only one person working in the counter so I see how it could get busy. It seemed a bit disorganized since there was no actual queue. I was called up after Lumiere and I took a seat and the immigration officer asked me for my passport. She looked for my stamp showing the date I entered the Philippines and told me I needed to make copies of the passport page and the stamp. There was also an immigration form I had to fill out.
I went over to the printing place with Lumiere. To get there, make a left when you walk out of the immigration building and look for D-Mall on your left hand side. Continue walking down the street for about 5 minutes and you will see a place where you can do printing. They took my passport and made copies of the pages. One of the girls working at the print shop looked at me and said something in Tagalog. She then told me "She thinks you're handsome." Pointing to the girl working the front counter. She was pretty cool really short and petite. She was then making comments about how the girl working at the front counter liked my nose and my smile. "Wow" I thought to myself.
When I finished my printing, I made sure to write down my phone number and give it to her on a piece of paper. She smiled and the other girl working next to her had a surprised look on her face. I told her "Give me a call sometime." She looked at me and smiled. I usually don't leave girls my phone number, but I decided to try it this time. I'll let you know if she gives me a message.
Finally, I walked back to the immigration office and there were SO MANY PEOPLE... I found out later most of them were waiting on their passport. There also wasn't a proper queue, and I spoke to two Western girls and told them they would need to make copies of their passport page for the entry stamp. So make sure to do that before you even go to the immigration office to avoid the hassle. I then gave the immigration lady my passport, the immigration document, and the copies from my passport. She said "that will be 3,050 pesos ($68.50 USD)." I got the money and gave it to her. She then told me I would have to pick up the passport tomorrow.

In 2008 Lewis Gordon Pugh attempted to kayak to the North Pole. He was unsuccessful, but that he could even attempt the feat shows the dramatic effects of climate change on the area.
I got up this morning and said goodbye to Lumiere. I've been hanging out with him for the last month and a half. It has been a great experience hanging with him because he has so much knowledge on traveling and picking up. I definitely picked up some good advice.
I took the shuttle bus from my resort in Bulabog Beach to the ferry station. Originally, the resort wanted to charge me 500 pesos to get to the station but I was able to negotiate the price down to 250 pesos. I was carrying a backpack with my PS3, my laptop bag, and my backpacker's backpack. I think I will buy one small suitcase with me so I don't have to carry my laptop bag and backpack. I think this will minimize the amount of bags I have to carry.
Once at the ferry station, a guy who worked for the ferry helped me with my bags. I tipped him 20 pesos. I then had to pay 25 pesos for the ferry ride to Caticlan and 50 pesos for the terminal fee. The ferry ride was a bit rocky, but I got a nice view of the mountains on the way to Caticlan. After about 10 minutes, we arrived in Caticlan. I had one of the guys working at the Ferry station help me carry my big backpack again and paid him 20 pesos as well. I then got a tricycle taxi for 50 pesos that I had to pay at the tricycle taxi stand to Caticlan Airport.
At the airport, there are two security checkpoints. Also, you have to print out your flight confirmation or they will not let you into the airport. Fortunately, the company I was flying with had an office near the airport. I asked the guy who was working at the front of the airport if he could watch my backpack. I know this was probably a mistake, but I didn't feel like lugging into to the office. When I came back from printing my confirmation, the security guard working at the airport questioned me on why I left my bag there. He also told me that I shouldn't leave my bag unattended. I think it's because it could be considered a security risk.
Nonetheless, I made it into the airport. I checked into my flight and my backpack was only around 11KG so I didn't have to pay an excess baggage fee. Passengers are allowed 10 KG for flights leaving Caticlan. I then had to go through one more security checkpoint and then there was a small waiting room with two gates. I couldn't get a wi-fi connection and my USB internet was not working so I messed around on my computer for two hours. I got to the airport early so it was mostly spent waiting around.
The flight with SE Asia Air was delayed over 40 mins, but the take off didn't take long at all. I presume because the airport in Boracay is small. They also served water and a small pack of BBQ nuts for free. I had my own window seat on the left aisle and I would say that the seats in SE Asia Air were more comfortable than Cebu Pacific. The flight time to Cebu was only 45 minutes. I felt like the flight was rushed by the flight attendant and also found her to be rude. She made a comment to me "Turn off your laptop" we're landing.
I'd say that the price of the flight which was only around 3,000 pesos outweighed the hassle of flying with SE Asia Air. I have yet to find an airline that I really like flying with in the Philippines. But it's a cheap tickets right? So I'll live with it!
I got to Cebu and used my USB internet to get the map of the address to the hostel in case I needed it. I then went over to the information desk and the lady mentioned that the yellow taxis are cheaper, but the white taxes were closest to where we were. I had a lot of luggage, and didn't feel like walking. So I decided to take the more expensive taxi which cost me 360 pesos.
My cab driver was very friendly and asked me "Where are you from?" and other questions. He was quite lively. We drove from Lapu Lapu City where the airport is into Cebu City. The drive took about 20 minutes and you have to cross a bridge which connects the two cities. I had to run some errands the next day and the driver mentioned that he could give me a rate of 1,000 pesos for 3 hrs. I wasn't too interested in it.
We arrived at Cebu Guesthouse. The security guard dressed in white asked "Do you have a reservation?" I told him "No, do you have private rooms available?" He responded "Yes." I went inside to the check in of the hostel and surely enough they did not have any private rooms available - just a dorm. I prefer not to sleep in dorms because I lose out on sleep and it's hard for me to get things done when there are so many people in the room.
I asked for hotel rooms and they recommended the Mango Park Hotel across the street. The security guard was even kind enough to carry my bags to the hotel. I arrived at the hotel and went inside. The place looked nice and then I asked her the magical question "How much per night?" I thought she said 750 pesos, but I was mistaken. She intended to say "1,750 pesos" which is roughly around 40 bucks. I thought about it for a few minutes and decided not to stay. "I'm not in the US and 40 bucks a night for a room is outrageous" I thought to myself.
I called up a couchsurfing girl I had talked to previously and she knew of some places I could stay. She arrived about 10 minutes later and she took me to this pension called C'est la Vie Pension that was about a 5-minute drive away. It's basically a standard private room with TV, air conditioner, closet space, bathroom with hot water shower, queen size bed, and a desk. Wanna know the price? Only 700 pesos per night! It sure beats staying at that overpriced hotel. More to come on my stay in Cebu

If you can choose one place in Africa to explore, go for the Tanzania safari. Anyone who's been there can vouch only the best wildlife sightings. However, there are some things you'll have to remember if you want to make your trip a truly memorable one. Should you have the choice to plot your Tanzania safari tour, you should go for early morning drives. You'll get more out of the trip if you set off before sunrise. True, you'll have to wake up early to make this happen, but it's a small sacrifice for the spectacular sightings you'll be getting. Secondly, don't just go for "big" sights. Take in everything because the most fascinating creatures are not that far away from your camp. Look at insects and smaller creatures too while you're on your Tanzania safari.
There are many great ways to travel. What most people choose depends on how much money they have to spend and also about how they feel most comfortable. There are many types of bus tour that you can take. One is a specialty trip. You can either book one of these on your own, or sign up for one that is already going to a particular destination. These trips are often day trips, or they may include a night stop somewhere. This type of bus tour will go to one destination, perhaps a ballgame in a nearby city, or perhaps for a shopping excursion in NYC, if you live near that area. These are often sponsored by someone in hopes the bus fills up. If you have a large group that wants to go, you can always book these buses on your own for the right price.
Other types of bus tour have longer routes so that you can see many different sights at once, and may go for a few days to even a week. These may snake around one state or one region within the US. This allows you to see the attractions near you that you may not have had time to see just yet, and you can go in a loop so that your vacation is all planned out for you. You won't have to worry about where to go or how to get home because the entire trip is planned from home when you leave and then back to home when you the bus tour is over.
A one way bus tour is an option as well. These can be non-stop, but some offer a few hours layover in specific areas as you go. This is a harder way to have a vacation because the time in each stop is limited and it may not be enough for you to enjoy that area. Instead, this type of bus tour is great when you want to go far from home for a stay somewhere, and then turn around in a week to come back home without worrying about flying or driving your own car. Look over the tour itinerary closely to see where you are going and how long your stop overs may be.
Once you have chosen the bus tour that suits you the best, pack accordingly. If you are going on a long trip without any companions, take books and other personal items to keep you occupied on the bus. You may want to see the sights outside the window, but you may also want to read. If you are going with a group, you may not need these things, though everyone needs some downtime. Don't forget to take plenty of drink and food with you and leave your bus tour trip schedule with someone so your family knows where you are and when you should be back, just as you would with any trip.
The age-old battle of the campsite. Which is better? A tent or a campervan? Die-hard camping fans will always claim that the tent is the ultimate outdoor experience. Lightweight, easy to put up and just as easy to take down, tents have been the best way of having a cheap holiday for generations.
But...
Anyone who has ever tried to pitch a tent in a force eight gale and torrential rain will know just how soul destroying it can be. No matter how good a tent is, a leak will eventually ensure that your bedding, change of clothes and even your socks are as damp as the rest of you. Unless you're going for a family-sized construction with separate rooms for the kids and a communal area in the middle, there's not much privacy either and they can be very cramped. And if it suddenly turns cold outside, it's going to turn cold inside too.
Yes, camping has the advantage of being a cheap way of spending a couple of weeks away from your normal environment, and quite often site camping plots are considerably cheaper than a campervan plot. So what advantages does a campervan have?
The obvious...
The first and most obvious advantage of a campervan is that there's no need to spend an hour in the rain trying to find your tent pegs. With a campervan you just park up, pop the top (if you're lucky enough to have a pop-top van) and get the kettle on. When you're ready to move on all you have to do is take the top down, get in the driving seat and you're off. Pitching and striking takes all of 30 seconds, even in a force eight gale.
Cooking on a camping stove may be some people's idea of fun, but the campervan has the advantage there too. A decent sized stove can greatly increase the variety of meals you can cook, especially if you have kids along too. You're not restricted to bacon and eggs or stew in a tin - and with plenty of storage space you can take your provisions with you instead of searching for a local shop late in the evening in the vain hope that they haven't run out of bread.
And then there's the leaks. In a campervan (unless the seal on the pop-top's starting to crack!) you don't get that infuriating and unexpected drip down the back of the neck at three in the morning. Your clothes and your bedding stay dry and you can even leave muddy boots outside under the van so you don't trample dirt inside.
The not so obvious...
Sometimes trying to find a campsite late in the evening can be a tough job for even the most organised of camping enthusiasts. With a campervan a quiet lay-by can serve as a makeshift stop, as long as you don't mind the occasional bit of traffic noise. Campervans give you a lot more freedom in where you choose to stop for the night, but do check any local by-laws and restrictions before you plot up (they can often be found on notice boards in larger lay-bys).
While camping invariably means blow up mattresses that suddenly develop a slow puncture in the middle of the night, with a campervan you have the luxury of a proper mattress and all the bedding you could want. Warm, cosy and comfortable, a campervan will easily sleep four and some will even sleep six (at a push).
If you're talking practicalities, then the campervan wins every time. Stuffed full of everything you need to just get up and go on a whim, there's a lot less organisation required to go campervaning. But for the real die-hards you can always put a tent in the van as well, just in case you fancy a night under canvas!

New York City has 2 major airports, John F. Kennedy International and La Guardia. A third major airport is just across the Hudson River in Newark, New Jersey. All 3 have frequent shuttle bus and taxi service.
At Kennedy Airport, you can access the subway into Manhattan by first getting on the Long Term Parking Lot Bus which makes a stop at the Howard Beach Subway Station. Take the A-Train from there into town.
How To Get Around New York
If you’re thinking about renting a car as part of a New York vacation package, can I just say one thing: DON'T! It’s not worth the cost, traffic, parking problems and general hassle. The best way to get around this city are: Subway, Taxi, Bus and walking.
The subway is fast, convenient, and the lines and stations are numerous. Even though the subway map looks like a plate of spaghetti, it’s all color-coded, so you’ll understand it pretty quick. And it’s generally very safe – just use a little common sense, like not flashing around wallets and purses with large amounts of money.
The MetroCard is a good deal and gives you unlimited rides on the whole underground and bus system for $7. Buy them at vending machines and corner stores. If you’re out very late you may be more comfortable with a taxi home, which are easy to find and quite reliable.
One of the best things about New York is that it’s a superb walking city! Many great sights, shops and restaurants in Manhattan can be found on foot.
Best Areas to Stay in New York holiday guide
On a short New York vacation package, the most popular areas with the best choices are in: Midtown Manhattan including Times Square, Upper West Side, and Upper East Side.

Wait till dark, and then see the neon lights and huge billboards of Times Square. You’re close to Broadway, where you can catch a first run play or musical. Many fine places to dine here too.
A great romantic tip are the views of the city while you’re holding hands: sky high from the observation deck of the Empire State Building, or from a casual walk across the Brooklyn Bridge – one of the most gorgeous structures in the city.
The Staten Island Ferry is one of travel's greatest FREE deals! Make your way down to Battery Park, and set sail for the ride past the Statue Of Liberty and see awesome views of Lower Manhattan. Pack a little lunch and find a quiet corner of the boat for a romantic picnic at sea!
